My decision to run for the Wayne State University Board of Governors comes from a deep commitment to public education, a belief in the transformative power of research universities, and a desire to help strengthen one of Michigan’s most important institutions.
Wayne State University is currently facing serious challenges, including rising tuition, increasing housing and healthcare costs, threats to critical DEI programs, cuts to research funding and scholarships, and growing concerns about free expression on campus. At the same time, talented faculty, staff, and union members fear losing benefits, job security, and the support they
need to continue their important work. During this difficult time, Wayne State University needs strong and bold leadership on the Board of Governors. The university needs leaders who will advocate for and defend the interests of students, faculty, and union members and who will work to protect the values and mission of the university. I will be that leader for you.
I believe every student should have access to a world-class education without being burdened by overwhelming financial strain, and I will advocate for policies that expand scholarship availability, strengthen financial aid, and prioritize responsible budgeting. In addition to affordability, student success must remain at the heart of every major decision. This includes improving advising systems, expanding mental-health services, strong support for first-generation students, and investing in modern facilities and technologies that help students succeed in today’s workforce. I am also committed to advocating for the University’s service employees whose work keeps the university running every day.
Committed to making WSU more Affordable. Modern, Inclusive, and Accountable while advancing the interests of Students, Faculty, Staff, and Union Members

My Inspiration in Public Service
My father, Professor Mohammed Yunus, an educator and member of parliament in Bangladesh, inspired my commitment to public service through his lifelong dedication to helping others. He taught me that leadership begins with showing up, listening, understanding people’s struggles, and acting with compassion. His work in education and advocacy for working families showed me the power of service rooted in fairness and opportunity.
To me, public service is a noble calling. I am ready to serve the Wayne State University community with dignity, respect, and conviction, guided by these values.
